Kids in arts programs do better in school. Reason enough right there for a system obsessed with academic performance. Now add the soft benefits – kids learn how to lead, how to work as a team, they become more self-disciplined and take on greater individual responsibility. Music and art programs are a path to self-confidence and success.

2010 Artists' Garage Sale
sponsored by POSSCA and City of Olympia Arts Commission, Department of Parks, Arts & Recreation

Need art supplies? A great gift for yourself or a friend? Check out the artistic wares and whatnots of over 70 area artists!* This is the third year for this popular event, but due to City of Olympia budget cuts, this will be the first year that POSSCA will be running it. The event is free, but donations to POSSCA will be welcomed at the door.

POSSCA Board President, Darren Mills, said that The Artists' Garage Sale “is a unique event that gives Olympia's artists and lovers of the arts the opportunity to meet, shop and connect. To lose this community gem to necessary budget cuts would be a terrible loss for us all. POSSCA is thrilled, in partnership with the city, to present this year's event and then carry it into the future. And from here on, all the proceeds from the Garage Sale will benefit our mission to support the young artists in our community. What a wonderful opportunity for us all!"

Money raised will support student participation in K-12 arts education, including CAPS (Cultural Assistance Program for Students) program which provides musical instruments to students in need who otherwise couldn’t participate in school music programs. POSSCA also awards up to 8 arts scholarships annually to high school seniors pursuing education at the college level.

Join us Saturday, May 22nd, from 10am – 3pm, at the National Guard Armory, 515 Eastside St. SE. Olympia.

Who Are We & What Do We Do?
POSSCA is a non-profit organization that makes it possible for kids, whose families don’t have the resources, to participate in K-12 arts programs. About Us explains our mission and position on the arts in education.

Smart Financial Management
Last year we elected to suspend our scholarship program in an effort to maintain fiscal stability. Following the success of our Holiday Cocktail Party & Art Auction in December we are able to reinstate the program on a scaled down basis. Read more.
